ARTS PLATFORM

The arts are what make Seattle special, vibrant, and unique, and a big reason I fell in love with Seattle when I first moved here in 1998.  The arts are how we build community, culture, and share our joy and grief and the whole range of our thoughts and emotions and human experiences.  The arts are truly what make us human, how we learn from each other, and are essential to both individual and community health.  Experiencing art together, like at a small local music event, is often when I feel most connected to our community.

Also, our youth are experiencing record levels of depression, anxiety, and gun violence.  These are not unrelated issues, and we need to ensure that our youth have robust access to culturally-relevant art opportunities to help meet their social, emotional and mental health needs.

Unfortunately, Seattle is becoming unaffordable for too many, especially artists.  My top priority is to make Seattle more affordable, particularly around housing costs, so that we can all afford to live and thrive here.
